House and home are two words that usually used to show a
place where we live with our family. But did you know, actually both of them
have different contextual meaning?
Based on Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, House is
building for people to live in, usually for a small family. Based on that
definition, we can see that house is a real building where a family live with
its properties. Thus, when we are talking about house means we are only talking
about the physically condition of it, whether it made of wood, wall, and so on and
do not talk the way of family’s living.
Home is used to refer to a family living together and the way
it behaves. Means that we are talking about how a family live in a house, are
they happy, are they sad, are they harmony or not. It defines the atmosphere of
a family living in a house. It of course has a very different meaning.
A great and luxurious house doesn’t mean has a good quality
of home. Sometimes we think that we will be more comfortable if we live in a
great house, actually it’s not. It will be profitless if the family who lives
in that house doesn’t love each other and don’t taking care each other. On the
other side, a small house with no good properties on it, it can be a nice home
if the way of family living is full of love and taking care each other. For
examples, parent teaches the daughter to be discipline, get dinner together,
sharing about anything related to the daughter’s development, so the growth of
daughter is controlled.
In brief, house is a place or building where the family gathers
to safe from hot and rain. Meanwhile, home is the atmosphere that felt in the
house, whether full of love or not. However, house is a very important place
because the family member, especially children, will made up the character from
their environment, and house is the first environment that they seen.
